2018 Botanicals & birds

My works are influenced by the aesthetics and process of Japanese Ukiyo-e Woodblock prints, and I start to turn my attention to the patterning and textures of the tree trunks, and start including more trees in my work. I begin producing larger works on paper as my confidence grows including several large triptychs - a format I enjoy because it reminds me of oriental screens.

My botanical works/flowers in vases are painted from life using fast, decisive strokes with calligraphy brushes. My intention is to keep the painting in the spirit of a sketch, to capture the fleeting nature of cut flowers.
